Gain Cutting-Edge Knowledge and Practical Skills
Empowering African Healthcare Professionals with Tools and Knowledge
Diabetes is rapidly becoming one of the most significant health challenges in Africa, with the continent experiencing one of the highest growth rates in diabetes prevalence globally. The condition's associated metabolic, renal, and cardiovascular complications dramatically increase morbidity and mortality, exacerbating the burden on already strained healthcare systems. Unfortunately, many regions in Africa lack the resources and trained professionals necessary to address these complex conditions effectively.
This virtual medical course is designed to meet the urgent need for comprehensive education in managing diabetes and its associated disorders. Through five interactive educational modules, participants will gain cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills tailored to the unique challenges of managing diabetes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This program offers a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on evidence-based strategies to improve patient outcomes across Africa.

Five Interactive Learning Modules
This program provides a vital platform to empower African healthcare professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to combat the growing diabetes epidemic and its associated complications. The content is organized into five focused learning modules.
Our modules collectively provide a comprehensive educational experience, equipping participants with practical, evidence-based approaches to improve diabetes care across Africa.

Module 1 – Pathophysiology and Treatment Advances in Diabetes
Explore the latest developments in understanding the pathophysiology of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This module highlights innovative treatment approaches to optimize care for people living with diabetes.

Module 2 – Technology and Cost-Effective Management
Delve into the latest diabetes technologies, including continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and insulin pumps, while also addressing cost-effective strategies for managing diabetes in LMICs.

Module 3 – Cardiovascular Complications and Management
Examine the cardiovascular complications associated with diabetes, with in-depth discussions on managing hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and other critical cardiovascular issues.

Module 4 – Renal Protection and Coronary Artery Disease Management
Learn about the management of coronary artery disease, strategies to optimize renal protection, and approaches to managing chronic kidney disease in individuals with diabetes.

Module 5 – Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease and Multidisciplinary Care
Gain insights into the complexities of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). This module features a panel of experts offering multidisciplinary perspectives on managing complex diabetes cases.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Review the pathophysiology of type 1 and of type 2 diabetes, how it is related to the development/progression of key diabetes comorbidities, and how knowledge of pathophysiology drives prevention and treatment.
- Describe the implications and impact of the latest evidence-based expert treatment guidelines for lifestyle, pharmacologic, and technologic management of diabetes and its comorbidities.
- Recognize how the evolving clinical implications of cardiovascular and renal outcomes trials of antidiabetic medications can be effectively applied to the prevention and treatment of these comorbidities of diabetes.
- Apply the latest preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic approaches to manage the many complications of diabetes including cardiorenal complications, and metabolic associated steatotic liver disease.
