A response to Africa's fastest-growing health challenge
Diabetes is among the fastest-growing health challenges in Africa. Its metabolic, cardiovascular, and renal complications contribute substantially to morbidity and mortality while placing additional pressure on already strained healthcare systems. Many communities continue to have limited access to specialized resources, current clinical education, and healthcare professionals with advanced training in diabetes care.
Clinical Updates in Diabetes: Train the Trainer is an intensive, in-person educational program designed to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals to improve diabetes care within their clinics, hospitals, and communities. Clinical and educational experts from the participating institutions will lead this highly interactive program.
Participants will receive practical, evidence-based instruction on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diabetes and its related complications. The content will be tailored to the clinical realities, available resources, and healthcare environments of Zimbabwe.
Program Model
A Two-Day, In-Person Train-the-Trainer Program
Each two-day program is limited to 40 delegates, creating an environment that supports meaningful interaction, collaborative learning, and direct engagement with faculty. The Train-the-Trainer model is designed to extend the program's impact well beyond the participants in the room.
Delegates will be prepared not only to apply the knowledge and skills in their own clinical practice, but also to share the learning with colleagues and deliver education within their clinics, hospitals, and professional organizations. Through expert-led presentations, interactive discussions, case-based learning, and practical teaching strategies, participants will strengthen both their clinical expertise and their ability to educate others.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the program, participants will be better prepared to:
- Apply current, evidence-based approaches to diabetes prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Improve the recognition and management of metabolic, cardiovascular, and renal complications.
- Adapt clinical recommendations to available resources and local healthcare environments.
- Strengthen patient education and support effective long-term disease management.
- Use practical strategies to teach colleagues and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Develop a plan to share knowledge within clinics, hospitals, and professional organizations.
